Formed during the ice ages and unchanged for thousands of years, the rugged and spectacular coastline of the southern fiords is untamed by civilisation because of its inaccessibility. The experienced and friendly crew of the 'Esprit de Mer' will introduce you to the seemingly unlimited rainforests, sandy beaches and deep fiords of the area. The tranquil coves make idyllic anchorages for our boat. From there you could take one of our kayaks and explore the surrounding shore or take time to relax in the spectacular scenery.

The Boat

The Esprit de Mer is a 16 metre (52') fly-bridge cruiser especially suited to Fiordland. It has a cruise speed of 22 knots which makes this craft fast! We will get you to the best diving and fishing spots so you can spend more time in the wilderness. The boat with spacious living and dining area's is fitted out with the latest in electronics and safety equipment. You can be assured of safe, comfortable charter in the remotest part of New Zealand. There is accommodation for up to eight, plus crew, but the boat is especially suited to six passengers, especially for extended charters. Two crew, at least one of which is a divemaster, are aboard to ensure you are fully looked after so that you can totally enjoy this unique wilderness area.

The Diving & Fishing

The Esprit de Mer is fully equipped for diving, fishing or just relaxing. A large aft fishing deck with holding tanks and full safety equipment assure you of a professional and hassle free trip. Diving in Fiordland is an experience that will amaze and enthral you. Sheltered fiords enable diving in clear protected waters. A freshwater surface layer provides a unique opportunity to view sea-life and Fiordland's black coral in their natural environment. The Access

Based in Doubtful Sound (ten times bigger than Milford Sound) with Dusky Sound close by, Fiordland Charters offer an area accessible only by water or air. Fiordland Charters can organise your whole adventure accessing Doughtful or Dusky Sounds by water across Lake Manapouri or by floatplane or helicopter across the Southern Alps.
